I started by testing my wordmark on many background colours to see what worked best. I did like the purple and blues as they felt quite mystical. However, there was something about the green which I really liked. It gave the feeling of being in a forest. Some of my favourite books when I was younger took place in a forest with lots of animals so it gave me a feeling of nostalgia.
What does green represent?
Green represents new beginnings and growth. This is very fitting to my product and mission statement as the aim is to grow and improve the reading ability of children. This green colour and “forrest vibe” also feels very calm, relaxing and cosy. This is how I want children to feel when the use the product and also when they read books.
Which green should I choose?
After getting feedback from multiple sources, including Paddy Donnelly, I have decided to use the lighter green background for the majority of designs. It has much better clarity than the darker background, especially when used with the logo.
Additional colours
The black and white will be mainly used for body copy and anything that needs a clean base. I thought it was important to include a complimentary call to action colour. For this, I chose orange. It is opposite the dark green on the colour wheel and they work well together. Orange is also a suitable colour to use alongside the fox icon.
