I am considering designing a dynamic logo for this project. Therefore, I wanted to do some research into what they are, their advantages and disadvantages.

What are dynamic logos?

“Dynamic logos are logos that have the ability to change and adapt based on different factors or situations. They're not static and unchanging like traditional logos. Instead, they have this cool flexibility that allows them to respond to different contexts, environments, or even user interactions.”

It is like having a logo which can shape-shift and adapt to it’s environment. This way, it can be more engaging as it is tailored to each scenario.

Advantages & how this applies to my product

Memorable - When logos change and adapt, they capture the audiences attention. This can be a change in colour, dimension or animation for example. It can make users anticipate what will be next. For my product, the logo may change as they develop their reading skills. Therefore, this can be motivating to read more to see what will come next.

Engagement - Users tend to engage more with dynamic logos through clicks and animations which strengthens their connection with the brand. For a children’s brand like mine, animations are especially enticing for children.

Adaptable - The logo can change depending on it’s environment e.g. screen-based or physical packaging. This way. the logo will always be at it’s best. My brand will likely be on physical packaging when users receive books. Therefore, I will be able to choose which version of the logo works best with this.

Brand evolution - Dynamic logos are becoming more popular. By having one, it shows that you are adaptable to change and thinking about the future.

Increased brand visibility - People tend to talk more about dynamic logos and the new ideas that have appeared. This gets more people familiar with the brand and they spread the word. With my product, I would hope that children talk about what logo is in their app and compare with each other.

Drawbacks to consider

Brand recognition - If the logo differs drastically in every situation, it can make it difficult for users to recognise it. Therefore, there should be core brand elements that the user will recognise.

Complex - You must ensure the dynamic logo aligns with the brand’s identity and message.
