Here is the link to our group project. This includes everything from brainstorming to our final outcome.
Group project brainstorming
Brainstorming
Before coming together as a group, we each went off and brainstormed some ideas ourselves. Here are some of the things I came up with:
Topic: Climate change
- Reducing food waste - app where you input the food you buy and their use by date. You then get notifications when its about to go out of date rather than finding it days later and having to throw it out. It could also have an advice section which tells you how to properly store the food you’re buying. It also means you have an inventory of what food you have so you don’t buy what you already have.
“When you throw food away, you're also wasting the resources and energy that were used to grow, produce, package, and transport it. And when food rots in a landfill, it produces methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. So purchase only what you need, use what you buy and compost any leftovers. Cutting your food waste can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 300 kilograms of CO2e per year.”
Topic: Global pandemic
- Delivery drones - during a global pandemic, this is a no-contact way of getting essentials delivered (food, medication etc.). Users can use their phones to track the delivery.
- Game - Aim is to bring together friends and family virtually and combat loneliness. The players will be on a video call and the screen will display a common household item. The players then have to race to find that item in their house and bring it back and press a button. They can choose the number of rounds and there is a point system to determine the winner. This also gets people moving around.
- Community app - Aims to help people make new friends and combat loneliness during a pandemic. Weekly virtual meetings for a range of clubs e.g. books, fitness, cooking, crochet. People can simply discuss, share knowledge or take part in activities from their home. People can join as many clubs as they like or request to start a new club and if enough people are interested, it gets created.
- Neighbour app - If people are isolating, they can alert their neighbours and if they need food or supplies, their neighbours can help them out. There could be a secure payment system for money transfer.
- School/education - Educational game which encourages children to read when they are stuck at home. Their required reading book is put in the app and the child receives points for each chapter they read. They also have to write up their thoughts on the chapter to prove they have read it.
Topic: Immigrants and refugees
- App for restaurants, schools, shops, businesses etc. with updated information on food and supplies refugee camps are in need of. This also prevents food and supply waste from places like this.
- Information & advice on the country they are moving to. e.g. language classes, best schools, transportation, support groups, job opportunities, virtual chatroom/q&a section.
