This page is dedicated to all of the weird and wonderful ideas that come from my idea generation exercises. I want to do as much exploration as possible before I narrow my ideas down. We were recently given multiple idea generation methods which I am going to try out and see which work best for me.
Ideas that come from this will be highlighted in orange
This first tactic involved using a random word generator and listing down as many words as I can associated with that word. The word I got was “Book”. This is what I associated with that word:
From this, I thought about some of the words I wrote down to see if it would spark any ideas. Luckily, it did. From the word “bedtime” and “children”, I started to think about the importance of reading for children and the significance of the types of books they read.
Idea: Subscription service which recommends books based on your child’s age and interests and sends them to your doorstep.
Here is some of the ideas and features for this service:
The next word I got was “Supermarket”
Idea: Device which scans your shopping lists and tells you where the products are, cheapest price and availability.
If the supermarket doesn’t have the item available, they will provide alternatives. You can input your list digitally or physically by scanning your list. It works in any supermarket you go to, making stuff easier to find in an unfamiliar environment. It will save time and prevent you from overbuying. It could have AR integration which directs you to the aisle the item is in and then the shelf location. It could provide nutritional information and you can select if you have any dietary requirements.
Another ideation method is mood-boarding. I enjoy doing this as it helps me visualise how the end product may look, how it may feel and it gives me inspiration. I decided to do a mood board for the children’s book subscription service as I am fond of the idea.
From the inspiration I found, I think designing a product directed towards children would be very enjoyable. I would be able to use lively colours and branding and potentially create fun characters.
