I decided to go into some book shops and libraries to capture some pictures of children’s books. I hope that this will give me inspiration for typography, illustration styles and the types of words they use.
Animals
One of the first things I noticed was that a lot of the books involved animals. There is clearly an interest in reading stories about animals. If I include illustrations in my product, I will definitely consider including animals in these.
An interesting fact I discovered is that animal characters “allow the reader to see themselves while also remaining distant enough from humans to permit children to consider messages in a more objective way.”

Themed
As it is coming up to Halloween and Christmas, I found a lot of holiday themed books. Perhaps my product could provide collections around these times.

Educational
I found a lot of educational books on a variety of topics. I think my product should have the option to select what your child is learning about in school/what they want to learn about/what their parent wants them to learn about. This will make it much easier for parents as they won’t have to find these books themselves.
