This week was our product pitch. I was quite nervous to do the pitch as I wanted my idea to be taken well. My initial thoughts after this is that it went well. I think I clearly stated the issue I am trying to solve and how I will do it. The initial branding that I put together helped them visualise my product. Paul has been selected as my tutor for this module.
Feedback/discussion
- After this discussion, I think I will make the project tablet based as this is what most children use/have access to. It could make it easier for them to use. It would also allow for more space for illustrations and interesting interactions. There will also be more room to show the book recommendations.
- Originally, I thought the product would just provide physical books. However, should they also provide digital? This could make the books more affordable and take up less space. You can also get the book immediately rather than wait on it being delivered. The tablet would be a good size to read a digital book. Maybe they could have the option between physical or digital. Maybe once a month they get a physical book but they can get digital ones in between. They can also have the option to send the book back afterwards to make it more affordable. The digital books could have a nighttime mode for bedtime stories.
- One thing we discussed taking inspiration from is pop up books. Turning these interactions into something digital would be fun for children. For example, they could pull down a paper-like tab to uncover something.
- I was told to not worry too much about the branding. This can change as much as I want as the product develops. I have gotten approval on the name “Far Far Away” and the initial style.
- There is a lot that can be done with recommendations. If a child is fond of a certain author, they can be recommended other authors that are similar. They can also be given recommendations based on their interests or topics they are learning at school.
- As a form of encouragement, there could be a reward to work towards. e.g. when you finish 20 books, you get a bookmark. Or, when your reading ability improves, you get a free book.
