Digital or physical
In today’s tutorial session, we talked about whether the books provided should be digital or physical. I have decided to allow the option for both digital and physical. Digital books would allow them to be cheaper and quicker to receive. Perhaps they receive one physical book a month to help build up their physical collection.
Defining a target audience
Before this session, I knew I my target audience was primary school children but I needed to narrow this down. We looked at the average age children start to read independently and the results said around 7 or 8. Therefore, my general target audience is 7-12 year olds.
Parents will be involved in the product in terms of setting up the subscription and payments. However, I think the product should be aimed at the child and speak to them.
The next thing I want to focus on is putting together user surveys. I want to make two separate surveys, one for children and one for parents. This will confirm to me that children would be interested in a product like this. I will also find out how many children are struggling in some way with reading. e.g. their confidence and skills. The survey from the parents will give me an insight into their personal struggles. e.g. if they struggle to find books their children are interested in/that are suitable for their reading ability.
