This week, I sent out my first user survey. This was aimed at parents to get an idea of children’s reading habits at home. I think the results of this will be helpful, however, after talking to my tutor, I believe it will be very useful to get the perspective from teachers.
Teachers interact with a full class of children everyday so they will have a great overview of their reading habits. There is a chance that teachers may be more honest as it is not their own children they are talking about so they will have a less biased viewpoint. If they have been teaching for a long period of time, they will be able to see if there has been a change in reading habits and abilities. It would be interesting to find out if the problem is getting worse. I want to create a survey aimed at primary school teachers. I will reach out to my primary schools and some others and see what responses I receive.
We also decided that I need to do more research from an educational perspective. This will give me a better idea of how children’s education is being affected by this problem. I also want to see if schools are using technology and digital books to their advantage in education.
