This week, Paul and I discussed the survey results I received from both parents and teachers. We both agree that the results are useful and the responses, specifically from the teachers, prove that this problem is prevalent. I only received 6 results from the teachers so it was recommended that I send the survey to more primary schools outside of my local area. I will do this but if I don’t receive many more responses, I still think the responses I have already received have been useful.

We discussed the importance of having a competitive edge. I think my product has a few things that make it unique and desirable. The obvious one is that I prioritise reading ability over the age of the child. Another is that I allow the parents/children to choose the books the receive from a selection. This is important in keeping their interest in reading because they are more likely to receive books they will like. Also, if they are interested in a certain author, series or genre, they can request more books for this. Lastly, having an application integrated makes choosing books and interacting with the subscription much easier.

We also looked at Paddy Donnelly’s work as he is an illustrator of children’s books. It could be useful to get in contact with him for advice on how to create a brand and illustrations that children are interested in. I also want to look at his work in general for inspiration.
